The Hugo Awards

The awards (more formally known as the Science Fiction Achievement Awards) are announced each year at the World Science Fiction Convention (or Worldcon). They are known as the "Hugo" awards in honour of Hugo Gernsback, "The Father of Magazine Science Fiction".

The awards are voted for by the members of the World Science Fiction Society, the membership of which is defined as those who have registered (as attendees or supporters) for the next Worldcon.

The awards are given according to votes cast by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc.

The Nebula Award® 1999 Winners were announced May 20, 2000 in New York City. The 2001 Nebula Awards® Weekend will be in Los Angeles, April 26-29, timed to coincide with the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
